Relevant Knowledge

Many cars also provide power assistance to reduce the energy required to apply the brakes. Usually, the power source is the pressure difference between a portion of the vacuum in the intake manifold and the external air. The servo unit that provides assistance is connected to the intake manifold through a pipeline. A direct acting servo system is installed between the brake pedal and the master cylinder. The brake pedal push rod, which in turn pushes the master cylinder piston.

But the brake pedal can also work on a set of air valves and has a large rubber diaphragm connected to the master cylinder piston. When the brake is closed, both sides of the diaphragm are exposed to the vacuum in the manifold. Pressing the brake pedal will close the valve connecting the back of the diaphragm to the manifold and open a valve that can suck in air from the outside. The higher pressure of external air forces the diaphragm to push the master cylinder piston forward, which helps with braking force.

If the pedal is then pressed and not pressed again, the air valve will no longer draw in air from the outside, so the pressure on the brake remains unchanged. After releasing the pedal, the space behind the diaphragm will reopen the manifold, resulting in a decrease in pressure and the diaphragm retreating.

If the vacuum fails due to the engine stopping, for example, due to the normal mechanical connection between the pedal and the master cylinder, the brake still operates. But more force must be applied to the brake pedal to apply them.

Some cars have an indirect acting servo installed in the motor pipeline between the master cylinder and brake. This type of unit can be installed anywhere in the engine compartment, without having to be directly in front of the pedals. It also relies on manifold vacuum to provide assistance. Pressing the brake pedal will cause an increase in motor pressure from the master cylinder, open the valve, and trigger vacuum servo

The basic type of disc brake with a pair of pistons. There may be more than one pair, or one piston, that operates two pads like a scissors mechanism using different types of calipers - swinging or sliding calipers. Disc brakes have discs that rotate with the wheels. The brake disc crosses the brake pedal, and there are small motor pistons in the brake caliper, which work through the main pressure. The piston is positioned on the friction pad, and the friction force is clamped under the blade from both sides to reduce or stop it. The shape of the pad can be seen in most areas of the cover disc

There may be more than one pair of pistons, especially in dual circuit brakes. The piston only moves a short distance to apply the brake, and when the brake is released, the brake pads are almost unable to clear the brake disc. They do not rebound, and when the brake is applied, the motor will force the brake pads against the brake disc. With the brakes turned off, both pads were almost unable to clean the disc.

The rubber sealing ring around the piston is designed to gradually slide forward with the wear of the village block, keeping the small gap constant and without the need to adjust the brake. Many later cars embedded wear sensor wires into brake pads. When the coal tray is almost worn out, the leads will be exposed and short circuited by the metal tray, thereby illuminating the warning light on the dashboard.
