There are many rubber components on cars that will age over time. If not replaced in a timely manner, it will affect the use of the car. For example, if the belt reaches the mileage or time, it must be replaced, otherwise if the belt breaks during driving, the car will break down and it will be troublesome. Let's talk about which other automotive rubber components need to be replaced in a timely manner.

 

Engine foot pad

The engine foot pad is used to support the engine and provide cushioning. When the engine is working, there will definitely be vibration. If the engine is directly connected to the frame, the vibration will inevitably be transmitted to the interior of the vehicle, making the comfort of the vehicle worse. With the cushioning of this foot pad, most of the vibrations can be absorbed and cannot be felt inside the car.

How do you know this foot mat is broken? Firstly, by sensing the vibration inside the car, if the vibration inside the car is high and the engine operates smoothly without any abnormalities at idle speed, it is because the foot pad is broken and unable to absorb the vibration. The damage of this foot pad can also be seen with the naked eye, depending on whether there is hydraulic oil leakage. The foot pad is not entirely rubber, and there is hydraulic oil inside. If there is oil leakage, it indicates that the foot pad is cracked. After the oil leakage, the cushioning effect is greatly reduced, and it needs to be replaced.

 

Control arm rubber sleeve

The control arm serves as the guiding and force transmitting component of the automotive suspension system, transmitting various forces acting on the wheels to the vehicle body while ensuring that the wheels move along a certain trajectory. The control arms elastically connect the wheels and the vehicle body together through ball joints or bushings. When the vehicle is driving on uneven roads, the wheels will jump up and down, and the control arm will also follow the up and down movement, so a rubber sleeve is needed as a buffer, otherwise it will make abnormal noises or mechanical wear.

If the vehicle has more kilometers or has a longer lifespan, the rubber sleeve will age. But the aging speed of each type of car varies greatly. Some cars age and crack after five to six years or 70000 to 80000 kilometers, while others only crack after eight to nine years or over 100000 to 80000 kilometers. How do you know if this rubber sleeve is cracked? Usually, it is discovered through inspection by a maintenance technician during maintenance, and it is difficult to detect it without lifting the car. However, after severe aging of the rubber sleeve, driving may still be noticeable. The first issue is that there will be a strange noise when passing through the speed bumps, which is caused by the friction and collision between the control arm and the frame. The second issue is that it may also cause deviation, especially when the rubber sleeve comes out, the position of the control arm may change, resulting in incorrect four-wheel positioning data.

If the control arm rubber sleeve is damaged in the initial stage, it will not have any impact. When the cracking is severe or it comes out, it must be replaced. Because the control arm is not directly connected to the frame, but is connected through a rubber sleeve. If the rubber sleeve cracks seriously and falls off, it can cause the vehicle to be unstable and there is a great risk of high-speed driving. It should be replaced in a timely manner. The control arm rubber sleeve cannot be replaced separately in many 4S stores, and the control arm assembly needs to be replaced. The price is relatively high, and some models can be replaced separately. If you don't want to spend too much money, it can be replaced separately in an external repair shop.

 

Ball cage dust cover

The ball cage dust cover is a component on the half shaft. The connection between the half shaft and the gearbox and wheel bearings is not straight, and the bending angle during turning can be large. Therefore, there is a ball cage at each end, and the rotation of the ball cage needs to be lubricated with lubricating grease. The dust cover of the ball cage is designed to cover these lubricating grease and also prevent external dirt from entering the ball cage. There is a possibility of damage to both ends of a half shaft with a dust cover.

The dust cover of the ball cage is damaged. Firstly, the lubricating grease will leak, and if it leaks, the ball cage cannot receive good lubrication, thus damaging the ball cage. Secondly, external dirt such as sand particles will also enter the cage, increasing its wear and tear.
