Firstly, let's talk about the components that make up the automotive fuel system; The gasoline tank, fuel pump, fuel sensor, gasoline pipe, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail, fuel injector, carbon canister, and other components are collectively referred to as the fuel system.

 

One fuel tank (gasoline tank) → used for storing fuel.

The function of the fuel pump (electric gasoline pump) is to suck gasoline out of the fuel tank, and then press it through the pipeline and gasoline filter to the fuel rail, atomize it through the fuel injector, and finally reach the combustion chamber. It is precisely because of the gasoline pump that the gasoline tank can be placed at the rear of the car far from the engine and below the engine.

The main installation types of electric gasoline pumps used in gasoline injection engines are installed in the fuel supply pipeline or in the gasoline tank. The former has a larger layout range and does not require specialized design of gasoline tanks, making installation and disassembly convenient. But the oil pump has a long suction section, which is prone to gas resistance and high working noise. In addition, it is required that the oil pump must never leak, and this type is currently less commonly used on new vehicles. The latter has simple fuel pipelines, low noise, and low requirements for multiple fuel leaks, which is the current main trend.

During operation, the flow rate of the gasoline pump should not only provide the consumption required for engine operation, but also ensure sufficient return oil flow to ensure stable pressure and sufficient cooling of the fuel system.

 

2Oil level sensor

Various vehicle fuel tank oil level detection uses the principle of using the magnetic field generated by ferrite magnets to control the on-off of the reed contacts, converting the changes in the measured liquid level into electrical signals and connecting them to the secondary instrument to detect the liquid level height.

 

3The role of gasoline pipes in transporting gasoline.

The filter element of fuel filter gasoline filter mostly uses filter paper, and there are also nylon cloth and high polymer gasoline filters whose main function is to filter impurities in gasoline. If the gasoline filter is too dirty or blocked. Linear filter paper gasoline filter: The gasoline filter is located inside this type of gasoline filter, with folded filter paper connected to both ends of a plastic or metal filter. After the dirty oil enters, it passes through layers of filter paper on the outer wall of the filter and reaches the center, where clean fuel flows out.

The main function of a gasoline filter is to remove impurities from gasoline. If the gasoline filter is too dirty or blocked, the main manifestation is: when the fuel door is filled, the power starts slowly or cannot start, and the car is difficult to start. Sometimes, it takes 2-5 times to start. Most engines are equipped with disposable, non removable and washable paper filter cartridges for gasoline filters, with a replacement cycle of 10000 kilometers. If you add less gasoline impurities, replacing one filter every 15000 to 20000 kilometers is not a problem. The filter has arrow markings for inlet and outlet oil, so do not install it upside down during replacement.

 

4Fuel pressure regulator

The function of the fuel pressure regulating valve is to ensure the normal operation of fuel pressure in the vehicle's fuel circuit.

There is a diaphragm inside the pressure regulator that controls the opening and closing of the pressure valve. When the oil pressure drops below a certain value, the pressure valve closes, and the oil pump pressurizes the oil circuit to increase the pressure. When the pressure exceeds the specified pressure, the diaphragm opens, and the overpressure fuel flows back to the tank through the return pipeline, reducing pressure.

 

5Fuel rail → (also known as fuel distributor)

The Fuel rail, also known as the fuel rail or fuel rail, is a component of the air/fuel subsystem in the electronic fuel injection system. It is a mechanical device installed on the intake manifold and located at the injector. Its main function is to ensure that sufficient fuel flow is provided and evenly distributed to the injectors of each cylinder, while realizing the installation and connection of each injector. In addition, it may also have an impact on fuel pressure pulsation, high temperature vaporization of fuel, etc.

 

6Fuel injector

The effect of fuel injection to the cylinder and the operation of the fuel injector play a fundamental role in the power output of each engine. Due to poor fuel quality, the fuel injector does not work properly, resulting in severe carbon accumulation in the cylinder; Accelerated wear of cylinder barrel and piston ring will cause unstable idle speed, increased fuel consumption, weak acceleration, difficult starting and excessive emissions. In serious cases, the fuel injection nozzle will be completely blocked and the engine will be damaged. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly clean the fuel injection nozzle. Long term non cleaning or frequent cleaning of the nozzle can cause negative effects.

As for the issue of cleaning time, it should be determined based on the condition of the car and the quality of the fuel added during normal times, generally speaking. Good vehicle condition and good fuel quality can be extended to around 40000 to 60000 kilometers. When the fuel injection nozzle is slightly blocked, it also has a certain impact on the vehicle condition. Sometimes, such faults may occur: when shifting to first gear, starting, the car shakes slightly, and when accelerating, the phenomenon disappears again. Assuming that the various sensors on the car are working properly, the throttle valve has been cleaned, and the circuit is normal, it is likely that the fuel injection nozzle is slightly blocked.

 

7Carbon canister

Because activated carbon has an adsorption function, when the car is running or stalling, the gasoline vapor from the fuel tank enters the upper part of the activated carbon canister through the pipeline, and fresh air enters the activated carbon canister from the lower part. After the engine stops, gasoline vapor is mixed with fresh air in the tank and stored in the activated carbon canister. When the engine starts, the electromagnetic valve of the fuel evaporation purification device installed between the activated carbon canister and the intake manifold opens, and the gasoline vapor in the activated carbon canister is sucked into the intake manifold for secondary combustion.

When the engine is running at non idle speed, the sound of "da da" can be heard from time to time. Don't panic when encountering this situation. The first thing to do is to find the carbon canister solenoid valve on the car and determine if the "da da" sound is emitted by it. If so, don't pay attention. Because the carbon canister solenoid valve will produce intermittent switching actions when the throttle is opened, resulting in a sound, which is a normal phenomenon.
