A safety valve is a special valve in which the opening and closing parts are in a normally closed state under external force. When the pressure of the medium in the equipment or pipeline increases beyond the specified value, the medium is discharged outside the system to prevent the pressure of the medium in the pipeline or equipment from exceeding the specified value. Safety valves belong to the category of automatic valves, mainly used in boilers, pressure vessels, and pipelines. They control the pressure to not exceed the specified value and play an important protective role in personal safety and equipment operation.
1. Direct acting safety valve
A direct acting safety valve is opened under the direct action of the working medium, which relies on the pressure of the working medium to overcome the mechanical load imposed on the valve disc by the loading mechanism, causing the valve to open. This safety valve has the advantages of simple structure, fast action, and good reliability. However, due to the reliance on structural loading, its load size is limited and cannot be used in high-pressure and large-diameter situations.
2. Non direct acting safety valve
This type of safety valve can be divided into pilot operated safety valves and safety valves with power assisted devices.
Pilot operated safety valves are driven or controlled by the medium discharged from the pilot valve. The pilot valve itself is a direct acting safety valve, and sometimes other forms of valves are also used. Pilot operated safety valves are suitable for high-pressure and large-diameter applications. The main valve of a pilot operated safety valve can also be designed to rely on the working medium for sealing, or it can apply a much greater mechanical load to the valve disc than a direct acting safety valve, thus having good sealing performance. Meanwhile, its movements are rarely affected by back pressure. The disadvantage of this type of safety valve is that its reliability is related to the main valve and pilot valve, and its action is not as fast and reliable as the direct acting safety valve, and its structure is more complex.
The safety valve with a power assisted device is forced to open below the normal opening pressure through a power assisted device. This type of safety valve is suitable for situations where the opening pressure is very close to the working pressure, or where it is necessary to regularly open the safety valve for inspection or blowing out adhesive or frozen media. At the same time, it also provides a means of forcibly opening the safety valve in emergency situations.
