Rocker arm seat is a component of intake and exhaust mechanism in overhead valve engine. The intake and exhaust mechanism is composed of camshaft, tappet, rocker arm, rocker arm shaft, rocker arm seat, valve, valve spring and other parts. The opening and closing of the valve is completed by the action of the tappet and rocker arm. The rocker arm is installed on the rocker arm seat through the rocker arm shaft. One end is driven by the tappet from the camshaft, and the other end is pushed on the valve stem to control the opening and closing of the valve together with the spring.

The valve rocker arm is a double-arm lever, with the rocker arm shaft as the fulcrum, and the two arms are not equal in length. The short arm end is machined with threaded holes for screwing in the valve clearance adjustment screw. The long arm end is machined into a circular arc, which is the working surface to push the valve.

A metal connecting rod is required between the valve rocker arms, and the cam pushes the connecting rod to push the rocker arm to realize the opening and closing of the valve. However, too high speed can easily lead to the breaking of the ejector pin, so this design is mostly applied to engines with large displacement, low speed and high torque output. The camshaft overhead can omit the ejector rod, which simplifies the transmission mechanism from camshaft to valve, and is more suitable for the dynamic performance of the engine at high speed. The overhead camshaft is widely used.
